VIOPTI® ContactsPod™ – Introduction
Viopti was registered as a company in May 2009 to commercialise a unique patent protected product for contact lens users. The Viopti ContactsPod is the world’s first hermetically sealed, pre-filled, and easy to use disposable lens case.
The Viopti ContactsPod provides contact lens wearers with a convenient sterile environment for their lenses avoiding the numerous potential eye infections that could 
result from incorrect storage or from leaving lenses in the eye too long. There are many cases on the market but none that are pre-filled and hermetically sealed and all existing cases have to be used in conjunction with a bulky separate bottle of solution with a limited shelf life.
The concept was created by the founder Alastair Knox .The basic idea behind the product was borne out of a situation where Alastair was on an airplane without access to his disposable lenses or glasses. He needed somewhere hygienic and safe to store his lenses for the overnight flight so that he could reuse them. Nothing was available and he was forced to keep them in his eyes experiencing an increasing level of discomfort.
The ContactsPod will appeal to all contact lens users:
1. Who find themselves in a situation where they have to remove their lenses and they have not brought a spare set or have no access to conventional bottled solutions and lens cases.
2. Who will make a planned buy to ensure that they have a small, convenient and safe product for use as and when the need arises.
To ensure that the product is available for both unplanned and planned purchases it will be for sale in mass retail and in or close to where the customer is likely to have an unplanned need. This will include hotels and airlines.
Independent market research has shown that there is a significant market for the ContactsPod:
• 86% of all contact lens wearers have been in a situation where they would have liked to remove their lenses and not had a case to put them in*.
• 90% of all contact lens wearers would be interested in a pre-filled case with solution that remains sterile until opened*.
• 80% of all contact lens wearers would use the product more than twice a year. 29% would use the product more than 10 times a year*.
